Big Bertha the world’s largest tunnel-boring machine was halted again today in Seattle for reasons that are of yet unknown. Some sources in the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) have stated that the while tunneling yesterday the temperature near the cutter heads on the machine reached 140 degrees. The WSDOT will be preforming additional testing in order to better understand what the issue is that is cause the machine to overheat. Their is no update as of yet for how long these test will take and how these delays will affect the opening of the tunnel.
